The Red Sea: Scuba Diving Heaven

Egypt is one of the premier diving destinations in the world. The Red Sea is a crown jewel and people come from all over the world to dive there. Lucky for me, Egypt happens to be a fairly close and affordable flight from Warsaw. In May 2023, I went with a group of friends to Marsa Alam for a scuba diving adventure.

Last year, I went to Egypt to get my Open Water Diver certification and it was my first time diving in the Red Sea. It was a magical experience and I committed myself to returning to Egypt once a year to dive. Not only is diving much more affordable in Egypt, but you also have an incredible wealth of spectacular dive sites that are often a short boat ride from shore.

This time around I completed my Advanced Open Water Diver certification to allow me to dive to up to 30 metres. The Advanced Open Water Diver certification is much more fun than the Open Water Diver. Out of five required dives, only two are mandatory - a navigation dive and a deep dive to 30 metres. The three remaining dives are up to you. You can choose from quite a few options. I chose a wreck dive, a night dive, and the perfect buoyancy dive. Each dive was pure pleasure as you don’t explicitly practice any skills but rather try new experiences to gain more confidence as a diver.

After my certification, I went on a one-day boat trip to Dolphin House with Kajetan, Kasia, Karolina, and Hubert. We completed two dives which were my favourite dives so far in my short scuba career. The highlight was swimming through natural caves within the reefs that had rays of sunshine sneaking through and loads of beautiful fish. It was a magical experience.

If you love scuba diving, I one hundred percent recommend the Red Sea in Egypt. It’s an affordable destination if you are flying from Europe and the quality of dive sites is unparalleled.

There was a beautiful house reef at the hotel beach where I could always count on seeing this Bluespotted ray.

I like (sea) turles.
