Strajk Kobiet: Mass Protest in Poland

“You’ll never walk alone!”

“You’ll never walk alone!”

On Friday, October 30, people from across Poland descended onto the capital, Warszawa, to speak loudly and clearly to the Law and Justice Party (PiS). Their message? “Do not dare take away our freedom or we will not stop!”

Protests have erupted around the country since the constitutional court, which is controlled by PiS, made a ruling on October 22 that declared a near ban on abortion. This protest was a call to Poles to peacefully assemble to fight this infringement on women’s human rights. Kasia and I joined the march and from our perspective it was peaceful although we heard reports that there was some violence sparked by hooligans looking to capitalize on the event. Here are some photos from the night.
